MetraNow Privacy Policy
Last updated: July 19, 2026
Overview
MetraNow is a Chicago Metra commuter app that shows train schedules and real-time departure information. Your privacy is important to us. This policy explains what data the app handles.
Data We Collect
MetraNow does not collect, store, or transmit any personal information. Specifically:
- No accounts or sign-up required.
- No analytics or tracking. We do not use any analytics SDKs, advertising identifiers, or tracking pixels.
- No location data. The app does not access your device's GPS or location services.
Data Stored on Your Device
The app stores the following data locally on your device only:
- Favorites: Your saved station pairs (e.g., "Oak Park to Chicago OTC") are stored in the app's local preferences. This data never leaves your device.
- Cached schedule data: A copy of the Metra GTFS schedule is cached locally to reduce network usage. This is public transit data, not personal data.
Network Requests
The app makes network requests to:
- Metra schedule server (schedules.metrarail.com) to download public transit schedule data.
- Our API proxy (metranow-api.dissidentdesign.workers.dev) to retrieve real-time train positions and departure updates. These requests contain no personal information or device identifiers.
Third-Party Services
The real-time transit data originates from Metra's public GTFS-RT feed and is provided by the Regional Transportation Authority of Northeastern Illinois. We do not share any data with third parties because we do not collect any.
Children's Privacy
The app does not collect personal information from anyone, including children under 13.
